CMS supports Obama school speech

Here are some suggested questions for teachers to ask following next week's presidential address to schoolchildren:

What resonated with you from the President Obama's speech?
What is President Obama inspiring you to do?
Are we able to do what President Obama is asking us to do?

Click here to read the preK-6 teacher guide.
Click here to read the grade 7-12 teacher guide.
Questions like these, from the U.S. Department of Education's guide for teachers, have some parents and pundits worrying that the president's Sept. 8 speech to students across the country reeks of political indoctrination.

Others say it's hard to argue with a message of each child taking responsibility for his or her educational success.

In Charlotte, Associate Superintendent Ann Clark e-mailed CMS principals this week, encouraging them to make sure all students can watch the speech. She forwarded Department of Education suggested activities.

You can also find the guides, keep up with White House updates and figure out how to watch the speech by clicking here.

In 1991, before President Bush spoke to schoolchildren, then-House Majority Leader Dick Gephardt (D-Missouri) said, “The Department of Education should not be producing paid political advertising for the President.”

What has changed?

What has changed?

The Messiah is now in charge.

I don't have kids in CMS, but if I did I'd be keeping them home from school on the day of His Speech.

heavymetal said...

Concerned parents should keep their children out of school that day. I cetainly would.

Nothing has changed. The weak minded of each party will seek advantage where none exists. Republican or Democrat, or Other, he is the President of all Americans. I support his message to children and I support the right of those to disagree and dissent.

Anonymous said...

There should be no problem with or fear of our President speaking to the students of our country about the importance of education or any other civic goal. Either in 1991 or now.

Anonymous said...

To heavymetal...

What is the concern?

Anonymous said...

To Anonymous at 12:55...

Why would you keep your children at home? It sounds like a good opportunity to hear from our President and engage in the process. My kids were 9 and 10 in 1991 when President Bush spoke to the school children. I remember we talked about it that evening. Even though I am a Democrat and had not voted for him, I still thought it was a good thing for him to do.

It is shocking to me how many people despise our president so much that they don't even want him to speak to their children in a public forum. I was no fan of George W. Bush, but I certainly wouldn't have gotten upset over him making a speech to the children, especially not enough to keep them at home. Why all the hate?

InTheMiddle said...

For those wondering WHY some Americans are SO concerned, here is your answer:

If Obama was simply talking to kids about education and welcoming them back to school, nobody would have a problem with this. However, the instructions sent to school districts, (which have since been changed), encouraged teachers to have children write ways in which they "could help the President spread the message they just heard".

It's not over-zealous or alarmist to worry about this. Decades ago, a several nice young men realized they could build power by indoctrinating the youngest of their populations...school children. These men...Hitler and Stalin.

I am not comparing Obama to these dictators...but the precedent is there. Kennedy, Carter, Reagan, Clinton, Bush...have all addressed schools in some way. But, they dealt with education only.

Obama's guide was to have included discussions of the economy and the environment (that may have now changed). Has he lost so much "hope" that he now is going to the K-6 crowd to preach his gospel?

So...the issue is not that he is addressing kids. Most of us think it's great for a President to take the time to do this. The problem is the message he was planning to preach (once again, this will probably now change).

Anonymous said...

I'd at least like to see it first to make sure it coincides with what I'm teaching my children.

Anonymous said...

I'm not a Obama supporter, but if I had school age children, I wouldn't have a problem with them watching his speech. He is the President. Now, after the speech, I would talk with them about what they understood. It time we starting raising our kids. That's what being a parent is all about. Make sure they understand that there's two sides to every story and somewhere in the middle they will find the truth.

Anonymous said...

Saying you would keep your kids home that day, is saying you would teach them to be disrespectful to people of authority. That’s not the lesson to teach kids. Kids should be taught that no matter what your opinion of someone, you should always be respectful of them, especially if they are your elders. Those are just good values. But then again, the only thing right-wingers have shown the public these days about values is how to be hypocritical, so let them go ahead and keep their kids home.

inthemiddle said...

Very good point. Many of the teachers I know and work with have made a very interesting point....nearly every lesson they teach, video they show, book they use is previewed ahead of time. In this case, the Obama administration has given instructions on what to do....but only vague ideas about content.

For example, previously Obama was planning to to preach about global warming (to help support his "cap & trade" policy). As a teacher, I would like to be able to present both sides, or at a minimum discuss simple recycling benefits for kids...not the politics of global warming.

The entire Obama Admnistration (and regrettably, the Democrat party and Liberals) have taken the stance..."agree with us, or your stupid". Obama's address to the schools is aimed at "educating" kids in THEIR way of thinking...period.

The people here who hate President Obama so much are nothing but white supremacist trash. How dare you make such false and disgusting statements that have no basis in actual fact. Leave it to people here in Charlotte to still hate someone because they are not rich and white. I wish you Ballentyne folks would just disappear.

Anonymous said...

The subject of the speech is and always has been on the importance of students' taking responsibility for their success in school. What in the world is wrong with that?

inthemiddle said...

Interesting comment...

"Now, after the speech, I would talk with them about what they understood. It time we starting raising our kids. That's what being a parent is all about. Make sure they understand that there's two sides to every story and somewhere in the middle they will find the truth."

BUT...here's the problem. YOU won't be with your kids when Obama preaches to them, so how will you know what to talk about. You make a great point...THESE issues are things that should be discussed by parents...not by indoctrination. The problem is that they will not get "middle" view...they will get only ONE view...Obama's view.

I totally agree with you...and your argument actually leads credibility to the argument that THIS is a very dangerous and bad thing the president is doing.

Great for CMS, but I have opted out of these Orwellian activities for my child. I am firmly a Libertarian and do not condone Federal intervention in what should be locally run school activities. The local school representatives are accountable to me when it involves my child. I have chosen the curriculum that I am comfortable with and will not allow Orwellian activites which usurp my God given authority over my child. My message to anyone who attempts to usurp my God given rights as a parent and American: DON'T TREAD ON ME!

Anonymous said...

Yes, keep your little darlings at home in Southpark and force them to watch FOX NEWS until they are brainwashed just as bad as you. Ignor the truth, don't listen, have your olm mother push people around at a town hall meetin with her walker and yell racist statements - because Glen Beck told you too! God have mercy on your living souls.

"The subject of the speech is and always has been on the importance of students' taking responsibility for their success in school."

Did you read the guide that was sent out? I did.

Read a wee bit more carefully. The guide says to have your students write about ways in which they can help the President with the ideas that he discussed. Actual words, "have students answer the question, 'What can you do to help the President'?"

Why is Obama recruiting kids to help him?

I totally agree with you...if motivating kids to work harder in school was his true purpose....but, you and I both know...that is not the purpose

The influence that Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh is having will back fire. I do hope that there's only a small segment of this population who just cannot stand to see a black president in office. These children will one day grow up and perhaps regret the fact that they did not witness an historic moment....Why? because of weak minded folks who are followers and not leaders......How can someone in their right mind follow Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, and the filth on Fox News?

Oh my god woman, shut up with your loose comments about your 'God given rights as a parent'. There is no such thing. It's obvious you don't get out much. Now go on back to raising more ignorance.

Some of your seriously object to your children hearing the President of the United States encourage to take responsiblity for their success in school. Really?

inthemiddle said...

Hey Shalom....

what does this have to do with Obama being a "black" President?

Just curious.....the issue has absolutely NOTHING to do with him being black.

But...seems like that is always the cry when anyone criticzes Obama. Maybe...just maybe....many of us criticize him because of his policies and ideas. The heck with his skin color.

What a lot of people are missing is that there is a growing disdain of the Federal Government, and it started under George W Bush with the out of control growth of government. Obama has continued that growth at lightspeed. Americans are learning about the Radicals and Communists that he surrounds himself with and they are not going to accept it.

Anonymous said...

Some of you seriously object to your children hearing the President of the United States encourage them to take responsiblity for their success in school. Really? (corrected typos)

WOW...I had no idea that there would be so many "sheep" on here bowing down to the dictator Obama.

Once again...did any of you read the guide that was sent out? I DID. Or, did you get your facts from CNN and MSNBC (as usual).

I read the guide...and it's scary!!! No President in our history has attempted to preach policies to school age children. THAT is what worries so many of us.

Anonymous said...

Apparently, most that do not believe our rights are derived from God and not government need to refresh themselves on American History. Also, you need to look at the writings of Jefferson, Adams, Franklin, and Martin Luther King. They are all in agreement on this one issue.

inthemiddle said...

Here's an intelligent comment...

"The people here who hate President Obama so much are nothing but white supremacist trash."

Now, if I said something about uneducated blacks following Obama like mindless sheep....I'd be a racist!

Why are Liberals given a free Racist Card?

Anonymous said...

Yes I read the guide and it if you honestly object to your child's teacher reinforcing a positive message about the importance of education, feel free to keep your child home. My question is why you would object to your child hearing this from the President.

inthemiddle said...

why would I object? Because my child would be exposed to political views without my knowledge or presence. Because you know this is NOT about telling kids to "stay in school"...this is about prophecizing the gospel of Obama.

If you truly read the guides...then you already know this...but you are too blind to admit it.

This is a quote lifted directly off of the White House website: :WASHINGTON, D.C. – As children across America go back to school, President Obama will deliver a national address directly to students on the importance of taking responsibility for their success in school on Tuesday, September 8th at 12:00 PM EDT at Wakefield High School in Arlington. In advance of this address, the Department of Education is providing resources developed by and for teachers to help engage students and stimulate discussion about persisting and succeeding in school."

This is wrong, this is not about teaching anyone but Obama on how to control more people.

Obama tries to diffuse tensions, Bush just ratchets them up.

Triples the budget deficit? A large portion of the budget deficit comes from actually putting Bush's wars in Iraq and Afghanistan on the books.

Buying cars? Cash for Clunkers gave discounts for those who wanted to trade in their gas guzzlers for more fuel efficient models. It also allowed US automakers to INCREASE their sales and help the economy.

I see you get your education from the likes of Glenn Beck, Hannity, and Limbaugh

Anonymous said...

I don't like Obama but I would have my kids listen to him depending on the message.

If it was "Stay in School" and "study hard" then that's fine.

If it became him telling kids to ask their parents about helping those poor people without health insurance then I'd be shutting off the tv faster than you could imagine.

What he should say is "School children of America, I'm am sticking you with unimaginable debt. Good luck with that"

Anonymous said...

I did not vote for Obama, yes I am White & Repulican & I have no problem with Obama speaking with my children. My kids know we will talk later, like we do every day & yes, we do talk about politics so one day they just don't decide to get involved because a Black man is running for President.

You let him talk to your little brainwashed liberal weenies into his ultimate control and we will remind our children that for the moment we are still free and do not have to listen to his endless attempts to control everyone.

You liberals should be apologizing for one of your supporters that beat up and bit the finger off an old man (against Obamacare) in California because he was to chicken to take on someone his own size and age too. inthemiddle said...

Please...would an Obama supporter make ONE argument that does not blame Bush for something?

Without blaming someone else, you have absolutely nothing positive to say about Obama. He is woefully inexperienced and misguided. He has surrounded himself with far left leaning cronies that continually offer bad advice to him.

And...this is yet one more piece of bad advice he has gotten. He should not be preaching to children about politics. That is the point of all of this discussion.

Spinning away from the general vitrol and anger about the mere existence of Obama and going back to the point of the argument...

I did read the guides (plural) and read them carefully. If you read the 7-12 guide you get a much clearer picture of what the speech will be (i.e., focusing on education, personal responsibility, goal setting) based on the discussion questions suggested. The K-6 version of the guide is just a much simplified version of those questions.

In other words, "What can you do to help the President?" isn't in the guide. However, "What is the President asking me to do?" and "What do you think the President wants us to do?" are. And these have easily interpreted meanings in the context of the defined subject of the speech.

And, as a Republican and a citizen who wants my kids to be informed so they have the knowledge to ask questions, I'll happily let them watch.

The we agree. Since President Obama is not preaching politics to school age children we're all good. Right?

inthemiddle said...

HE IS PREACHING POLITICS...that is the problem.

I have no problem if he talks about "staying in school" and "working hard in class" kinda stuff.

But...he has absolutely no right to preach about morals in public schools. THAT is the issue.

The issue is not "white trash". It is not Bush. As your friends would like it to be.

The issue is simple....the original plan was for Obama to preach about the morals of supporting your government. That message has now changed a bit to reflect the anger of the public.

Nonetheless...the goal was to preach to children that they are supposed to mindlessly "serve" the government.

Anonymous said...

inthemiddle - Do you have a source for your information about the original subject of the speech?

Anonymous said...

"See he is a white racist"

Let me tell you a little story buddy. First I am not from South Charlotte which is your racial cry before you even know a color so you can hate others with more than you.
Second: when I was in school the freakin KKK came on our campus and left messages after trashing the campus that they were coming back to kill all "blacks" (definitely not the word they used!).

There was only one black guy in my dorm and I forced him to stay in my room for two nights till he felt safe. I carried my hunting knife and would have killed any sack of redneck $hit or die trying that got anywhere near him!!!

When I open a post and there is someone like you trying to turn this into a black /white issue it completely disgusts me and I hope you get the help you need. I am really mad right now but it is towards the whole damn government and when I calm down I would still try and protect you from those you accuse us all of being.
That is it, I am going back to work.

inthemiddle said...

Yes...the original guide that was sent out last week (not the new one). And, the original postings on the White House website (not the revisions made to the site today).

Here's the problem....as with most Obama things...there's the current version and the original version. The actual message has since been changed on the White House website to tone down the original message of "What do you think the President wants us to do?".

And, the only reason that message has changed is because they got caught!

Again, the problem is not that the President is addressing children. I think it is admirable. The problem is that they are being asked to write papers about "How I can help Barack Obama".

Sure I can - did you forget about me? Posted the actual subject from the Whitehouse website, asked for verification of changes, sent you link to President Bush's similar effort?

I assure you I am not a fanatic. And I haven't yelled at you in caps either.

inthemiddle said...

Once again, a generalization...

"The paranoia has reached new heights of stupidity. So it's better for our children to NOT hear from the President, ever? "

Nobody ever said that. It's the message that we have a problem with. WE should teach our kids to support the Office of the president...but we should not allow our children to be "preached" to.

Once again...you make a broad statement that those that disagree with don't want their kids exposed to the president "ever"...what a dumb statement.

Almost as dumb as labeling everyone in South Charlotte as rich, white and racist.

ANSWER to *crystalbass* -- Nothing has changed: Bush spoke to school children despite objection, and Obama will speak to school children over your objections. At least Obama earned his educational degree on merit, can deliver a coherent speech and can spell...unlike his predecessor.

inthemiddle said...

And, I read President Bush's website...just a bunch of historical facts about himself, the white house and the presidency...nothing too political about that. I'd have no problem with Obama doing something similar....but you and I both know he is not (well...he was originally not going to do that...but, I gotta believe his tune has changed now).

shalom said...

Inthemiddle, et al:

Okay....so you laughed...Ha Ha...

Now, all your jokes aside....Whenever you said Obama ALWAYS voted "present" or never this or that...then I know not to take you serious. Your absolute expressions are doing nothing for your cause....

Now: What is this school speech all about anyway? This is what you folks should be concerned about.

His speech to these students is not about his policies concerning Health Care, the Military, etc.

IT'S ABOUT EDUCATION!!!!! And the importance of staying in school and studying. Now, when some of you fellows barely having enough education to work at Wal-Mart, I would think you would be fine with this Harvard Law School graduate talking about education. This man actually graduated from two....TWO Ivy league Universities...Columbia and Harvard....I would think that he qualifies to talk about the importance of education.....He also taught constitutional law....and he is the president of the United States of America.

This is the reason I know race has everything to do with why these folks don't want him to speak...

Reagan did it; Bush did it.....Why would there be a walk out with Obama? Why? Because of his skin color...plain and simple....
You folks really need some serious help.

inthemiddle said...

"delivers a coherent speech"

When?

He "READ" a coherent speech.

AND...once again, a Democrat cannot make a single argument for Obama without bashing Bush.

How sad is that? Your president cannot stand on his own merits. The only positives you can give him are..."he's not Bush".

Wow...you must be so proud of your man.

Dustin said...

I guess we can all agree that education in this country is a REAL problem, right? Whether you are wealthy or poor, white or black, an undereducated person is a drag on society. If Obama can get through to some of these kids and spark their interest in school, the speech is a success. If you don’t think your children can think for themselves and you are threatened by them listening to a speech, by all means keep them out of school, but you are doing a disservice to your children.

Let them watch the speech and then, have a discussion; maybe it becomes a learning experience for you and your children.

By the way the racist comments on both sides of the argument coupled with the Hitler, Castro, socialist, communist rants lend little credence to your opinion.

All the name calling on this post is so un necessary. Here is an article from CNN that I found interesting about how we tend to discuss issues nowadays.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/09/03/ruiz.closed.minds/index.html

I'm not trying to change anyone's mind. I am an Obama supporter who does not really understand why someone would have an issue with him addressing school children about being successful in school. However, even though we have seen a lot of racist comments and racist signs at some rallys, it is obvious to me that most people who may disagree with Obama's policies or the direction he is taking us are NOT racist. It is good for the country that they voice their concerns when they have them. It's part of the process. I just don't see why both sides have to be so unwilling to listen and so rude.

The problem is not that the president is speaking to them on education, its all about the lesson plans included that are the waste of time for the students. That along with it all being about Obama, notice there is nothing in his lesson plans about what prior presidents, esteemed figures say about education, its all about Obama. And that is what is the problem, its just feeding his massive ego.

Dustin...you are correct. Unfortunately, it's your friends in the Obama ranks that continually bring up race as an issue.

Unfortunately it IS an issue, because Democrats continue to hold onto racism as being integral to EVERY discussion that involves Obama.

I think the majority of America respects the office of President and accepts Obama as president. But, the issue of racism continually is brought into play because we cannot even talk about this issue with someone like "Shalom" claiming that the ONLY reason we don't like Obama (the person) is because he is black.

When folks like "Shalom" stop accusing people of only looking at the color of Obama's skin...then racism will NOT be an issue.

THAT is my point. We should be able to intelligently discuss these issues, without calling anyone that disagrees with Obama a racist.

I honestly believe his speech to the schools will be NO big deal at all, and I think it will now focus on education only.

However, I also honestly believe his original intention was to be much more political in his speech. Was he being a new-Hitler? NO...I don't think so. I think he is simply getting very bad advice from a horrible cabinet.

I think someone in his cabinet actually thought it was a good idea to pitch health car, enviornmentalism, etc.. in a speech to kids. Bad Idea!

I think he does have good intentions, but I think he has become a "puppet" for special interests...and that is a shame...because he could do so much good.

I can actually understand this fear of brainwashing, president-worship, etc. That's not what's happening, but I can understand where that fear comes from.

The difference here is that this is one 15-20 minute speech, and every child has the freedom to disagree with what the President is saying, and the freedom to talk about that. CMS is providing an opt-out if parents are opposed to their kids listening to the speech. That wouldn't happen in a Communist country, it couldn't happen.

Many fears are being seriously overblown, and while I think it's kinda silly to be in fear of our President, you have that freedom to live in fear if you choose. I homeschool with my kids, but personally, if I shared those fears (I don't!) I would encourage them to see it, so we could talk knowingly about it. I would explain where our value differed, if they did at all.

I wish the energy that was spent on spreading the fear-mongering and false rumors was spent on bettering our country.

As far as filth goes, I guess maybe those on the right are finally learning from your side, like Code Pink calling Marines murderers and assasins or Obamas green guy calling republicans a**holes or Olberman and his oh so tasteful comments. Yea, we learned alright, we learned from the best of the best when it comes to verbal diahrea, the left.

Mr inthemiddle,

Maybe this discourse would have been a bit more civil had you not started out by calling the President of the United States "The Messiah", brought up Hitler and Stalin, called people who support the President "sheep" and refuse to offer any proof that the upcoming speech has ever been about anything than providing a positive message about education. It's beyond me how so many people can rain such hate a man who came from a broken home, graduated from Harvard Law, worked to better his community and has a lovely family-like many of us. There is no evil empire here. Stop with the paranoia.

Heck why not.. As long as the next Repub Pres, that is 3.5 years from now for you Nick Mackey voters is allowed to have this same oppurtunity, you know to praise the military and preach about the virtures of oil independence instead of dependency? Sure, never a double standard with the "progressives."

dharmamamma...you are 100% right. No argument here at all.

where this thing got off track, is the fact that anyone who questions Obama is labeled as Wrong, Stupid, Racist, Trash, Rich, White or Scum.

We should be able to have concerns about the President...we can support the Office, but not the person. Isn't that what Democrats did for 8 years?

Shalom and others on here seem to want to view this as White/Elite/Scum vs. the chosen ones.

The actual discussion is WHAT any president should and should not talk about to a captive audience of children.

The issue is the fact that children (let me repeat...CHILDREN) are basically being held captive to listen to a politician. And, if that speech is political...then that is wrong.

There is NO other person on the face of the planet that has the ability to force this many children to listen to them...and with that comes concerns....rightfully so.

That is all this issue should be about. Unfortunately, because I choose to voice a concern over the content of the message, some folks choose to label me....White, Racist, Rich, Elitist, Trash. Yet...they have no idea what color my skin is, how educated I am, where I work, or where I live.

I think this entire thread of comments is pretty darn scary.

Glad that teachers with their own political persuasions will now be able to figure out what party their (students) family supports so they can either help or punish students depending on that information.

This does NOT need to be brought into our schools regardless of who you do or do not support.

I find all the postings around telling the parents that taking their kids out of school is wrong.

Was it wrong for Rosa Parks not to give up her seat on the Bus.

Was it wrong for people to march for civil rights.

Was it wrong for people to boycott businesses that were no segregated

We all know the answers to those questions.

Social Disobiedance is the only tool that works. Its the only tool they listen to.

I say keep them out. All the teachers out there that disagree with it stay home.

Next time they hold a school bond vote no.

I support keeping your kids home

Sure and why we are at it, can we have his new green czar along side of this genius President. The same czar that thinks the Bush Admin planned and executed 9/11? You see, Mr Yes We Can is all about bringing this country together. IT's too bad he is turning out to be a empty closet, narracistic neophyte.

Gotta love all the idiot low-rent blacks that (a) are jealous of white people and (b) blindly believe anything Obama or the Dems say. You are ignorant trash that don't deserve to even have your opinions heard. I'm not referring to most blacks that are aware of politics, the world at large and strive for a better life instead of just looking for a handout but there are some that seem to see every attack on Obama as "racist" (while they call Bush an idiot and much worse). Are you that STUPID that you don't understand his color is the least of people's concerns. I'm ready for his term (either 1 or 2) to be over and many of the blacks that are new to politics can go back to their life and quit piping in on things that don't understand!

Mr. Anonymous

Those are your views of Mr. Obama...not mine. I do not know that any of those things about him. I would like to think he is well educated...but just because a person goes to Harvard doesn't mean their smart. As for bettering his community...that's very debatable...he bettered his OWN community of like-minded people ONLY.

As for my comments...everyone of them was a legitimate argument or response to something you said. Referfences to Hitler and Stalin are totally accepatble...because they are the only reference we have regarding a standing leader adressing a captive audience of school children.

And..."sheep"....well, that is exactly what you call people who blindly follow a leader. I have yet to hear a single argument about something Mr. Obama has done as a leader...yet you are still blinhdly loyal to this man.

Again..I'll support the office, but not the man (until he proves that he is a leader).

"Ohhhhhhhhhhh you are a little Obama supporter? You could have gotten a D on that paper sweetie, but an F is sounding ALLOT better!"

"OHHHHHHHHHH.... one of those paranoid, black hating, red neck, keeping the people down white trash kids from neanderthal parents? F F F F F!!!!!!!!!!"

OK Anonymous 4:33 - YOU are a bigot. and this is coming from the whitest white chick you will ever meet. So black people have no business in politics-huh? I bet you don't want them in your schools or lunch counters either. Wake up dude! It's 2009 and time has passed you by. Stop hating!

TO inthemiddle:

If you have pulled your children from CMS, then your opinions in this matter is irrelevant.

let the people who have a stake in this matter have a say. Have a good day.

Don't hate anonymous 4:36 - I have many black friends and have no issue with people due to their color. My concern is the 1 or 2 black trolls on here with all the "Ballantyne trash", anti-white, any attack on Obama is racist, etc BS.

THAT IS MY PROBLEM LADY!

How sad it is that a president has been elected in which parents are concerned with what he plans on talking to them about.

The entire administration
has proved to be nothing but spilled molasses on tapestry of America and all it stands for. Nothing but a sticky mess with some unwanted longevity in the clean up procedure.

Obviously and with due reason more and more people have determined this administration is one not to be trusted.

inthemiddle said...

I absolutely have a right to have an opinion...or has Obama and the Dems made that illegal too?

This is MY community too....and the kids in CMS are the kids that have the potential to work in my community or rob my community. I'd like to believe I am allowed to have a say in that matter.

I'm fortunate to be able to take my kids away from the mess that is CMS and it's liberal views on education. But, not everyone is that fortunate....they don't have a choice.

And...lest you forget....even though my kids are not in CMS, I PAY for those schools, those teachers, those buildings and those supplies....so, I have every right to voice a concern.

You're kidding right? He didn't just go to Harvard-he was editor of the Harvard Law Review. And isn't it the view of most conservatives that we should work to improve our own communities rather that wait for the government to take care of us.

And one more thing - I researched both candidates very carefully before I decided to support the President Obama. And believe me there are things I wish he would do differently. You are quick to assume that no one who is intelligent or thoughtful would have made the choice I did. Shame on you.

And by the way - its Miss not Mr.

inthemiddle said...

Ms. Anonymous

Then tell me...5 reasons you voted for Obama...and you can't say...

1. A change from the previous administration

2. He's black or represents a non-white Candidate.

Just 5 legitimate reasons....even if I disagree with you on those reasons....I'd still love to hear from someone that actually voted for his policies...and NOT for the above two reasons.

Please...make me eat crow on this one. I would love to have a reason to believe in this man...honestly, I would. But, so far, he has shown me that he is untrustworthy, and only out for his own popularity.

Please...give me a reason to believe in this man.

I suggest you re-read what you wrote:

They don't understand-that's the big assumption. So only us white people can figure out how to vote right?

Now I can understand you getting mad because lots of comments on both sides have been hateful. But have one of your black friends read what you wrote and see what they think.

I have yet to hear a single argument about something Mr. Obama has done as a leader...

1. Apologized to the whole world for our misdeeds, like saving starving children, fighting AIDS, fighting militants who kill their own people.
2. Sold out the car companies to the unions.
3. Put every single person in this country, even the un-born, in debt for the rest of their lives to the tune of $100,000.00++
4. Gave 95% of every "working" person a "tax break", that unless the IRS and Congress change the current tax laws before the end of the year, you will have to pay part of it back, because it is taxable income.
5. Gave all the idiots who bought new cars $3500-$4500 that is also taxable income due at years end. Nothing is free when it comes from the government.
6. Improved his golf game. I think his tee time was 9:00 am today.

If you don't want your child to see the speech, the schools will offer an alternate activity. How do I know this? My ConnectEd calls from both of my children's schools told me so last night.

Children receive most of their political "indoctrination" from their parents. An hour or so with Obama shouldn't undermine the rabid conservatism I see here.

Too funny...."you need a life".

That's the best argument you have?

Once again....I ask for an intelligent response and this is what I get.

As one of the "brainwashed blacks" who not only voted for PRESIDENT Obama, I also campaigned for him. And I'm so very proud of doing so.

This "brainwashed black" knows that 1. he stands for what I believe in, 2. he's working more than being on vacation, 3. he's smart enough to analyze an issue before making a decision on it, 4. he imparts Christian principles through deed, not just words, and 5. the true nature of people, that base humanness of who they are is shown when they show hate to someone who disagrees with them.

I find you all very immature. Extremely intolerant. And ultimately ignorant. I'm currently asking myself why I'm moving back to Charlotte. LOL God Bless your souls...you need it.
