CMS supports Obama school speech

Here are some suggested questions for teachers to ask following next week's presidential address to schoolchildren:

What resonated with you from the President Obama's speech?
What is President Obama inspiring you to do?
Are we able to do what President Obama is asking us to do?

Click here to read the preK-6 teacher guide.
Click here to read the grade 7-12 teacher guide.
Questions like these, from the U.S. Department of Education's guide for teachers, have some parents and pundits worrying that the president's Sept. 8 speech to students across the country reeks of political indoctrination.

Others say it's hard to argue with a message of each child taking responsibility for his or her educational success.

In Charlotte, Associate Superintendent Ann Clark e-mailed CMS principals this week, encouraging them to make sure all students can watch the speech. She forwarded Department of Education suggested activities.

You can also find the guides, keep up with White House updates and figure out how to watch the speech by clicking here.

I have not been told anything from CMS about watching a speech. I don't have a problem with listening to his speech, but I do have a curriculum to teach and I really do not have time to take a whole class period to hear what he has to say. Furthermore, is somebody going to email or tell me when the speech is?

Are you a CMS teacher who has not been notified that they will use classroom time for Obama's speech?

Kudos to CMS Schools for supporting the President of the US. This is all about race and nothing us. This country has had Presidents speak to this countries schools kids and even go to classrooms and read books in the past. Or should I say white Presidents. Well it's a new day and the President of the US is a black man.......PLEASE GET OVER AND MOVE ON TO SOMETHING THAT REALLY MATTERS. If you feel that you need to keep your child home that day, THEN THAT IS YOUR CHOICE AND GO AHEAD WITH YOUR PLANS!

Took an entire cup of coffee to skim over these posts.

Conclusion:

A: obama supporters will blame obamas failure as a president on Bush.

B: People who ARE NOT supporters of obama and his socialist agenda were no big fans of Bush either.
Do the math.

C: Clearly the majority of people
are concerned about the acting president addressing school age kids...that says all you need to know.

And it is simply sad as hell, that such a person ever got elected, what a great destroyer of motivation, and comfort that guy turned out to be, that is what happens when people vote for change for the sake of change without reading the fine print.

Pretty soon people will have "Bring Back Bush" bumper stickers on their cars.

No hell they won't. No one wants to bring that sorry bastard back into office. As said before, we hope Bush rots in the pits of hell for everything he's done. The blood of innocent people as well as service men and women are on his hands.

God bless President Obama. He is truly the best thing that has happened to us since Bill Clinton left office. For all you conservative Flip Benham lovers, you might as well get used to things, you sorry sore losers. Keep your soccer mom asses in south Charlotte.

On another thread concerning this topic, someone said that my husband and I were uninvolved parents and implied that we are the sort who don't bother to feed or clothe our child properly- because we had asked the school system why we were not officially notified about Tuesday's speech and the controversial (now much modified) recommended educator guide. We get a robo call to let us know about "school spirit' night at Chik-fil-a- but a Presidential address (normally a well publiced sort of thing) doesn't rate a mention?

By the way, our son WILL be viewing the speech, as I believe it's a political learning opportunity which we have encouraged him to attend with an open mind.

I'm not a neglectful parent- if I were I probably wouldn't give a darn what was going on at school anyway. Nor am I a racist- questioning a decision my president made is one of my rights as an American. When I disagreed publically with something Bush did no one accused me of hating middle aged white men.

Please, people- name calling and knee jerk reactions won't help. Why is it ok to hurl random insults at people you don't agree with? Hardly a good example for the children... You know- the ones this whole controversy is supposedly all about.

And I am FINE with having a black president, thank you very much. I don't judge people by their skin color, I judge them by their actions and by how they present themselves. Um... and also by how they drive. LOL.

Some people in America and America itself is finally showing its true colors. People can try to now use words like Socialism and Communist as a back drop to what it really is which is racism. Why, you might ask I say this. Well, first.. This country is a socialist country and has been for a long time. We are more socialist than capitalist because we depend on our government more than we depend on ourselves. For instance, the Bush stimulus.. I don't think anyone whose complaining about Obama has sent back that money.. Socialism.. Medicare... Socialism... VA Hospital... Socialism... Unemployment benefits.. Socialism... Public Schools..Socialism.. the list goes on and on.. And what if the government woke up one day and said we are not going to subsidize anything else. Where would all of those phony hypocrites whose shouting Socialism would be?.. I tell you where at the front of the line asking why have my government forsaken me.. The Obama foul cry is simply Racism but that is OK.. Because I will enjoy the fruits of his hard labor while you wallow in you deep seated hated of not the man but his skin color.

If parents are that concerned about people brainwashing their children, then maybe they should actually take time off from work and do their job of being parents - listening to what the president actually says, talking to their children to see what they think and answer whatever questions they can, and if their kids want to do it, submit suggestions to the White House as to what can be done better or not done at all.

There are people who have posted here who realize that the greatest threat here is not the most powerful man in the free world but the folks who for whatever reason oppose this sitting president.

Those of you who identified yourselves as Republican but open to the idea of letting your children hear the president, thank you for your open-mindedness and candor and for demonstrating what true patriotism is.

Those of you who identified yourselves as black and did not mindlessly vote for the president just because he is black, thank you for being open-minded enough not to follow the herd mentality that has defined us for so long.

For the rest of you - I hope that at some point you can be big enough to listen to this man, accept the fact that he now leads this nation and, for better or worse, represents you to the rest of the world. He may not look like you or sound like you, but this isn't exactly a new thing in our world.

What is taking your child out of school that day going to do but create more make up work? You're an idiot! Now you see what its like to have your child sit, watch and listen to someone you possibly despise. Ohhh...isn't it fun? Welcome to how people have felt about Bush over the last 8 years! So, keep them home. Then, they can fail their next test or quiz! That makes for great education! Boy you're smart mommy and daddy!

Liberals are TIRED period of REPUBLICANS dumb behinds.

So I guess if an NFL player that you don't like comes to school to speak to the kids one day, you'll keep them home that day too? Oh, wait, no that's an opportunity for my little Johnny to get noticed. You people are hilarious. Why do you think this will bother the President? He doesn't care about you living in Ballantyne or Providence Plantation? He's still your President whether you like it or not. HA! HA!

Wow!!! Ignorance, ignorance, and more ingnorance. The dems pointing fingers and reps. The reps pointing fingers at dems. Racism and the race card. Christianity vs. Islam. Is Obama a U.S. Citizen? Communism, Nazism, and Socialism. South Charlotte/Ballayntyne vs. the rest of Charlotte. Lions, and tigers, and bears. Oh my! LOL!!!

Are you serious? This hype is stemmed over the president giving a 15-20 min speech encouraging kids to do well in school? 15 mins and he's going to put the vulcan my control on your kids??? If you want to keep your kids out of school that day, that's find. BUT atleast read his speach first then make up your decision afterwards. Don't base your decision soley off of your biases.

One thing that I do agree with the consensus on is our country is going to hell in a hand basket. Not because of our former or current president, polictical affiliation, etc. but because how ignorance is dividing our country. It shows other countries that we are weak and incompetent.

Keep on with this BS if you want to and our country going to be called "The country formerly known as the United States of America"!

Sincerely,

A black woman who is tired of the BS, finger pointing, name calling, and of course ignorance!

Ivy League universities are not good at getting students jobs, only grants to be commie nutty organizers. No business ever trusts such left wing graduates who don't believe in capitalism and become crooks because they are taught the only way business makes money is crooked so they seek to avenge their unemployability through their own crookedness. The universities consider real jobs and competition beneath them, so they want their little sissies to live off grants, even in the hard sciences or business. How many of their engineering professors have Professional Engineering certification? Almost none! They love foreign students because they slave up and don't expect professors to actually work for the tuition, like American students do. No middle class parent should consider sending their kids there, because these schools will destroy your entire family. The only schools that understand middle-class values are for-profits. Middle class parents foolish enought o buy into the Ivy League dream die way too young.

So I notice there has not been a single legitimate response to inthemiddle. Who is going to take itm up on the challenge? Five reasons, not including change and race. Waiting...
