Keep up with the CMS numbers

Families in east and central Charlotte are scrutinizing plans that could change boundaries for Myers Park and East Mecklenburg high schools and Eastover and First Ward elementaries. Some of the options also involve changes to several high school International Baccalaureate magnet programs and building swaps for traditional and arts magnets in elementary school.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools just updated some of the Myers Park/East projections at board member Trent Merchant's request. Other additions or revisions may come between now and Tuesday's board meeting.

The data is all available to the public online, but it's tucked pretty deep inside the district's Web site. Click here to see the latest documents. (Items on the Myers Park/East and Eastover plans appear at the top of the list.)

Another update: Tuesday's meeting (set for 6 p.m. at the Government Center, 600 E. Fourth St.) has been moved from a meeting room with limited public seating to the main meeting chamber to handle anticipated crowds. -- Ann Doss Helms

People we really need to start a campaign to get a new student assignment plan that is much simplier than the current one. I know on my street alone, buses for 34 elementary schools could come down it in the mornings. We need a much simplier plan that does give parents a few choices but this one now, while advocating so many choices, really could not happen due to how full most schools are.
