Do you know someone who would make a great teacher? Refer them to TEACH Charlotte today: www.teachcharlotte.org.

You made the choice to dedicate each day to supporting education in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. You probably know other outstanding individuals who are also looking for an opportunity to make a difference by becoming teachers. While CMS currently has an accomplished group of professional educators, the need for additional high-quality teachers is always great. The TEACH Charlotte program is an aggressive campaign to recruit local and committed professionals, community members, and recent college graduates who have the potential to become effective teachers, joining us in our efforts to increase student achievement in CMS classrooms.

TEACH Charlotte is a highly selective, innovative path for talented mid-career professionals and recent college graduates to become teachers and make a measurable difference in the most critical subject areas of math, science, EC, and Spanish as well as elementary, English, and language arts. The goal of TEACH Charlotte is to recruit, select, and train only the most outstanding candidates who have the potential to effectively increase student achievement in their classrooms. Candidates do not need to have taken courses in education or have prior teaching experience, but they should be committed to ensuring the academic success of our students and our schools.

TEACH Charlotte participants will:

Complete a rigorous summer training to develop their ability to affect student achievement as a new teacher in a high-need school;
Achieve significant academic growth with all of their students and hold themselves accountable by measuring student outcomes in their classrooms;
Complete lateral entry requirements through the TEACH Charlotte TNTP Academy during their first year teaching to earn North Carolina licensure.
Committed educators attract other committed educators; therefore, principals and current teachers are the key to helping us attract the community’s brightest leaders to become teachers.

As soon as possible, refer any high quality professionals who you think would make great teachers to our website, www.teachcharlotte.org to apply to teach or help share information about this opportunity to others who might be interested in applying. The early application deadline is Dec.19.

We know that teacher quality is the most critical factor in raising student achievement for all students, regardless of background or socioeconomic status. TEACH Charlotte is committed to recruiting and preparing high-quality, effective teachers who will raise student achievement in the classrooms that need them most.

I am so glad I found a spot for my child in a wonderful private school that values experienced, well-trained teachers.

This is such a stretch by CMS. We cannot hire teachers , because we have a terrible reputation with teachers nationally. We are poorly run and its paying these dividends. Hiring some inexperienced "teach Charlotte" kid would be a horrible idea. WHo thought of this one Charlotte CHamber. What do the Spanglers and Bill Gates think we should do? How about Billy Anderson over with Meck Ed? Ridiculous as Teach For America is a failed model as we all know. Talk to a TFA teacher majority of them are terrible teachers and enter the program to have their loans paid off ~! This is CMS answer for the terrible way they have treated teachers?

Is there any Party Planner jobs?
Ehh Latarja?

This is an absolute JOKE? To ask an employee to help find potential teachers after they have lost so many colleagues is insane.So the TFA program is not working? Did anyone in a leadership position think about a bonus for the teacher who actually finds an excellent teacher recruit.In the private sector this is called a headhunter.Oh, that is just for the thousands of dollars we taxpayers are spending to try to find a superintendent.Is there any leader in CMS that thinks a hundred dollar bonus to find quality teachers is too much? All I constantly see is CMS wanting something for nothing. Keep trying to do more with less and see how far this gets you.Raleigh is now the NUMBER ONE stop for a teacher that wants to work in NC.

It takes a lot of brass to send something like this out to CMS workers.At least the new HR director is trying to earn his exhorborant pay. Party Planner, now that is funny.

Another CMeS leadership idea.Did the school board aprove this desperate plea for human capital? Give the current teachers a couple of black eyes and now kick them in the stomach with this insult.How much lower can you allow morale to go?

First of all, I think it's pretty bad that a school district that has had huge layoffs is now in need of teachers. Someone's not making the right decisions here.

But second, for those of you who think that this kind of program couldn't produce some outstanding teachers, that's a ridiculous idea. I know several lateral-entry teachers that are amazing at what they do, and the TEACH program offers more initial training than these other teachers ever received. Do you honestly think that someone with a teaching degree will automatically be a better teacher?

I don't have a high opinion of Meck Cty Schools at all...but to say that anyone hired through this program couldn't be a good teacher is plain ignorant.

"I know several lateral-entry teachers that are amazing at what they do..."

Ditto. Some even go on to be our Congressman.

The same people that hate lateral entry teachers support the Gofather's Pizza guy for Prezedentin'

CMS is such a lousy system that they can't even get "real" teachers to work there!!!

Very cool post. I just recently started following your blog, but I look forward to contributing more in the future.

Perhaps they wouldn't have to dig for teachers if they'd treat the ones that have properly.

CMS may be having leadership issues, but this may be an option for so GIs returning from military service and looking for new opportunities.

That is it interesting. I have my bachelor in Chemistry Education, bilingual and 13+ years of experience, great references, but they did not hire me, I did not "fit" the requirements of experience and credentials.
When I applied to CMS, the instructions in how to apply were confusing and the "advisors or specialists in HR" were so complicated and the only thing they did was refer me to the website.
They laid off 1,400 employees between teachers and assistants... ans then they are asking for help to find teachers?... what's wrong in this picture?...

After little Petey Gorman laid them off kicked them around threatened their jobs and took the money and ran like the low life I said he was from the beginning now CMS wants what is left of their teaching force to help bring in new blood....
LOL thats nerve..

NOOOOOO One in their right mind would go into education in NC. My roommate before marriage was a teacher and my wife is a teaching fellow....BOTH are counting down the days till they get out. It's been estimated only about 40% of teaching fellows that have graduated in the last 3 years will stay in teaching. Some even have quit early and paid the State back. Bev and her cronies have destroyed education in this State.

At Anon 3:35, you are right about politicians destroying education in this state, but it ain't Bev. The blame falls squarely on Art Pope and his Teabagging minions Thom Tillis and Phil Berger.

Don't believe me look at their midnight hijinks this morning, http://www.news-record.com/content/2012/01/05/article/house_meets_in_early_morning_to_override_dues_checkoff_veto

i have applied to teach in cms for awhile and i have been on 2 interviews...one at crestdale and one at camel...those 2 schools were looking to hire white women. So i applied where i could and have heard nothing. Somebody is lying about hiring teachers unless the schools are 50% white and parents demand a teacher be hired. Otherwise...full time subs will do.

blpadge2 hit it right on the nose! Bev has done everything she can to make teaching more attractive...puppet Thom Tillis and his fellows are the ones bulging their muscles only to spotlight how powerless teachers are over underinformed policymakers. I live it every day as a teacher in NC. I've NEVER counted down days to retirement like I have since Thom's been in office.

When you have comments like this coming from the House Republicans (Tim Moffett Asheville) and budget cuts that eliminate programs like the teaching fellows program, the state of eductation is head south to Mississippi. Until we vote Thom Tillis and his buddies out we have bigger problems brewing than how CMS hires teachers.

I wouldn't dare work for them! You would never get respect or the fair pay, not to mention job security. You would be better off working for Walmart.
