Elizabeth Edwards leaves nothing to John in her will

Elizabeth Edwards in 2006.
Elizabeth Edwards' final will and testament was released Wednesday on the Web, and it doesn't mention John Edwards' name once.

Elizabeth Edwards signed the document, obtained by the TV show "Inside Edition," on Dec. 1, just six days before she died after a long battle with breast cancer.

The couple's older daughter, Catherine, 28, was named as executor. Elizabeth Edwards left all of her belongings to Catherine and her other two children, Emma Claire and Jack.

"All of my furniture, furnishings, household goods, jewelry, china, silverware and personal effects and any automobiles owned by me at the time of my death I give and bequeath to my children," the will says. Read the full will here (PDF).

Edwards' death certificate, which was also released Wednesday, listed her cause of death as metastatic breast cancer, "Inside Edition" reported.

Elizabeth and John Edwards separated early last year after he admitted to fathering a child in an extramarital affair with Rielle Hunter.

  2. Really? The Charlotte Observer is now going through wills in order to create stories? How is her will any of our business?

This is rather disgusting and whoever authored this piece should be ashamed.

I look forward to discussing this with Rick Thames in the morning.

  3. So glad to hear she didn't give that philanderer anything. Though I didn't agree with her politics, I feel for her and her family going through this difficult time. It is always very hard on the children when a mother passes away, no matter the age.

  4. I'm with Michael King on this one. How trashy this is even in the news!

    ReplyDelete
  5. Just when you think the Observer can't get any more tasteless...

  6. Is this The Star or the National Enquirer?

    ReplyDelete
  7. This is none of our business.

  8. Seriously, was the point of the story to vindicate or bash her? I'm sure her intent was based on the fact that her kids would benefit more from, or cherish more, the things she could not take with her. I'm sure John understands and I'm sure the entire family is going thru a really rough time, give them some respect, aka privacy.

  9. Michael, her will was released. It doesn't say someone crawled through a window and stole it.

Here's the link from CBS News also covering the story:

So after you and Rick get through holding hands over the Observer printing a story about it, call CBS News and every other major outlet and complain to them as well.

  10. This reminds me of a comment one of the old biddies made who was a member of my mother's church two days after she died. Apparently someone from church had taken it upon themselves to somehow "locate" a copy of my mother's Will and was broadcasting to high heaven what it supposedly said. I laughed until I cried after I got off of the phone with that woman because I knew she was lying about what was actually in it. The same here seems to apply to the Edwards children. Too bad nothing is scared anymore, even a dying mother's Last Will and Testament. As usual, Ms. Edwards' last concern was for her children.

  11. Anon. 8:59: Rest assured, you don't need to feel bad for Elizabeth Edwards anymore.

And like so many others, why / how is this any of our business?

  12. As Homer Simpson says,"D'oh!"

  13. Just when you think the Observer can't get any trashier, they come up with this.

What's next, Elizabeth Edwards death photos?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Did any of you who are complaining read the article or will? If so quit saying it should be private, if you felt that way you wouldn't have read it, don't blame the paper for printing what all national media outlets also published if you are concerned with her privacy don't read it!!

  15. I just wanted to let the Observer know that we did not leave anything to John Edwards in our Will either. Of course things could change before we die but we are willing to bet they could not afford to get that many air conditioning units down in Hades before then.

Just wanted to to keep you up to date.

    Larry and His Bride.

Oh and those of you who said you were going to call Rick Thames please not he honestly believes the Observer is fair and honest. The in fact have Conservative Writers and Editorial Board members a plenty as will as Liberal one all for all of us across the board.

So as far as any change, it will never happen. If someone is not willing to listen to their own customers then you just have to wait until the new management comes in.

  16. I think it's common for public figures to have their wills made known to us, and she is a public figure.

    ReplyDelete
  17. And this is a surprise to who? Seriously? Look I don't like her ex-husband one bit, but I certainly don't blame him for eventually wandering away from an evil, mean spirited b!tch such as herself. Enough with this scum, him and her.

  18. According to crime shows, documents signed by persons using narcotics are invalid. They remain in one's system long after taken. Considering how much pain articles said Mrs. Edwards was having, I wonder about the legality of this document although it is consistent with her love for her children.

  19. What did she own but what her ex-husband had given her anyway or via a divorce settlement?

BTW. His soon to be new younger thinner wife with the new kid is loaded.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Fact is she would have nothing if it weren't for the ambulance chasing skills of John "son of a mill worker" Edwards.
    All these people disgust me.
The media fills us with stories of her "grace under pressure" yet leave out the facts such as how bad Elizabeth treated those how worked for the SOAMW.

    ReplyDelete
  21. After all he did for her.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I would have done the same thing. Why would she want to leave anything to ex-husband and his new girlfriend?
Let this lovely lady rest in peace.

  23. Everyone is complaining about the will being in the paper. You did not have to read the will. If it was in poor taste you should have read the comics. I read it just to see what it was all about. Stop complaining and get on with your lives while you are still above ground. I don't read the enquirer so I don't know what it contains. You must like it, you were comparing the observer to it or how would you know whats inside if you did not read it?

  24. TO: ANON JANUARY 6, 2011 6:20 AM and
    juanita:

NO I did notm have not and will not even bother to click on her will. It has nothing to do with me and is none of my biz.

To those saying it was national news, well goody goody, just because it is out there does not mean it is right or that CO or anyone else should exploit Elizabeth Edwards.....

    ReplyDelete
  25. Is this finally over? Can the CO just put this issue along with this poor woman to rest?

    ReplyDelete
  26. So what else is new, CO? You have over sensationalized this story from beginning to end. I guess tomorrow there will be pictures of who John is eating breakfast with.

    ReplyDelete
  27. This is not our business. How tacky for the McClatchy Papers to put out this story. How low can the papers go?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Why is this any surprise? I am sure that John and Elizabeth had a separation agreement with appropriate division of property. Why would she leave anything to him at her death?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Dont worry Oprah is hot on the trail of this again and will be running to interview everyone for the 100th time. The world is still awaiting the Tiger Woods, OJ Simpson and Kobe interview from her though.

And dont forget Jesse Jackson who was a 2 time failed DNC pres candidate who had a love child 11 yrs ago with a professor in Cally has never been mentioned by her.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Under NC law it isn't really possible for her to completely disinherit her husband, absent a seperate agreement. There is a widow/er's allowance that he can claim even with a will. However, for once and for all, I wish your paper, and the News and Observer, would realize that this man, and his life are NOT NEWS. There is no news story with the name John Edwards in it and there NEVER will be. In a few years or months, this paper, which has been so enamored of Mr. and Mrs. Edwards will start trying to rehabilitate him and it is just NOT going to work. These people's public lives are OVER.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Girlfriend Oprah got her peeps backs. Dont worry. You go girl...

    ReplyDelete
  32. It appears that the will of Elizabeth Edwards was recorded which is public record anyways, so bashing the News Observer is stupid especially since every news caster on TV mentioned yesterday. As far as her leaving her estate to her children - any mother in their own mind would do the same if they cared anything at all for their own "Blood Children". The real let down was so many people admired John and Elizabeth Edwards when he was running for President and during this was cheating on his wife who had cancer. Can anyone in their own mind understand how a man could stoop so low. He's narcisstic which is a mental problem in itself. But history will probably judge her as being his strong force behind helping become get into politics. She will always be admired no matter what has been written by some. How could she not feel frustrated with people whom she trusted and who hid his dirty habits. I wanted him to become President and was very impressed with them as a team, but what a dire disappoitment. Then again the lady of his baby should never have taken up with a married man. She is a whore and if he marries her, he will dragging this women around with him and his kids. What can I say? What a tradegy for the Edwards kids.
